You've decided to earn your share of the internet marketing pie. What and how do you want to sell? I think you know that competing with the large companies on the net is an extremely uphill battle and more than likely a losing one.

Niche marketing is the way to go. It can be a very profitable one too! Your need to find your niche and work it hard to milk the profits you're looking for.

Start by researching what you want to sell. Although, it doesn't have to be, it is better to be in an area that you know a lot about. That way your research will go faster, smoother and get you pumped up to the task of making money with it. Try to find a niche that appeals to a wide audience, but focus the product appeal to something as specific as possible.

Let's say your product appeals to musicians. Narrow this down to those interested in singing, playing or composing. If it's playing, narrow down to an instrument, say a guitar. Will your niche appeal to those wanting to buy a guitar, those who want to learn to play a guitar or those wanting to collect and learn the history of guitars.

You see the pattern here. This will be your niche. It should be a very specific interest or product that appeals to a specific group of people such as stamp collectors, chess players, online gamers, internet marketers, poets, soccer fans, movie buffs, stock traders, programmers, etc. The list goes on and on.

When you have found your niche, find as many keywords as you can that apply to your niche. Search Google to see how many sites are using these keywords. This is your competition. There are websites that help you with this such as http://www.wordtracker.com and http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ which shows you how many users are looking for that information. These are potential customers. The ideal niche will have lot's of potential customers and low competition.

When you have found a good niche, be sure to tweak you website so that your main keywords are in you title,
headers and contents. Do a little reading on SEO, search engine optimization. This will help your ranking in the search engines. Review what you competition is doing and try to add something unique.

If you have found a niche that your know and enjoy, then your passion should give you the edge to make your website stand out from the competition. You will be on your way to growing a very profitable web business.
